JCC Camp Ruach’s staff team is comprised of high school and college age students, adults and teachers who share a common passion for working with children, enjoy being outdoors, and making a meaningful difference. Our camp staff community of more than 175+ individuals choose to work at Camp Ruach, where the work is more than just a “job”. Staff grow as individuals, immerse themselves in community, and experience fun and joy daily. We hope you too will want to be part of our Camp Ruach family!

We are currently hiring qualified staff for the summer camp season!
Current Open Positions:

Group Counselors
Group counselors hold the positions of CIT (counselor in training), Junior Counselors, or Senior Counselors depending on age and/or experience. Counselors work alongside 1-3 other staff (age group dependent) with about 15 campers to ensure campers are engaged in safe play, to help them build positive relationships with their peers, and to create a fun camp experience for all!

Teen Travel Counselors
Teen travel counselors work with campers in 7th-9th grade and travel anywhere from 2 to 5 days/week. Counselors work as a team with the other staff in their unit both onsite and on the road to ensure campers are safe and forming positive and memorable experiences.

Preschool Lead Counselors
Preschool lead counselors oversee 3 other counselors and a group of 15 campers either 3 or 4 years old. Preschool leads must have prior experience working with this age group either in a camp, school, or home setting. Lead counselors will excel in creating structure and routine for campers, fostering a nurturing and caring environment, and ensuring campers have a fantastic camp experience.

Specialists
Camp specialists create all of the fun at camp working with campers of all different ages, from as young as 3 up to 14. We are currently hiring for the following specialty areas: sports, art, STEM, cooking, and tennis. Specialists should have prior experience in their respective areas and be prepared to work with supervisors to create their own curriculums.

Inclusion Counselors
Inclusion counselors are hired to work directly with campers with disabilities. They are matched with campers based on their experience and availability. Inclusion counselors may work in a 1:1, 2:1, or general support staff role. They provide direct support to campers in a proactive and reactive manner and work to develop with the inclusion coordinator an individualized approach to create a successful and positive camp experience for each child. Prior experience or interest in working with individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.

Ropes Course Specialists
Ropes course specialists are trained and certified prior to the start of camp on our 9 element high ropes course and low ropes course. No prior experience needed. Ropes specialists work with campers in 2nd-9th grade to safely assist them on each element supporting them both physically and mentally as they work to complete each element. Ropes course specialists must be at least 18 y.o.

Unit Heads
Unit Heads oversee one age group at camp including the staff, campers, and communication with external guardians. The two open unit head positions are for K’ton (3 and 4 year olds) and Yeladim (Kindergarten-1st Grade). They meet year-round to plan for camp and are considered part of the leadership team. Unit Heads are adults with prior experience working with kids, leading groups, or working in a camp setting; teaching experience preferred.

Application Process:

- If being considered for a position, the applicant will receive a text or email to schedule an interview
- Interviews may be scheduled in-person or online
- Results of the interview will be communicated within 1-2 weeks of the interview
- Sunday June 1 - New Staff Orientation
- Wednesday June 4 - All Staff Training
- Thursday June 5 - All Staff Training
- Monday June 9 - All Staff Training
- Tuesday June 10 - All Staff Training

According to New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development: Employees at summer camps, conferences, and retreats operated by any nonprofit or religious corporation or association are exempt from minimum and overtime rates during the months of June, July, August, and September.
